MERK in brief

Hands reaching across borders – Along this theme, the European Mennonite Regional Conference MERK 2012, which is taking place 17-20 May at Forum Sumiswald, aims to take a hopeful stand against segregation and exclusion, countering the destructive mainstream of our societies and following the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.

Between 500 and 1000 participants from various European countries are expected to attend. MERK takes place every six years, and serves as a platform for an exchange of ideas and experiences. It is an opportunity for European Mennonites to meet and become mutually inspired and encouraged.

The Swiss Mennonite Conference is responsible for MERK 2012. The organisation and programming was carried out by volunteer ad hoc committees, under the leadership of Markus Rediger, Münsingen. The programming committee is an international body.
